Epilog laser engraver you need to be mine!!!!

It seems that the door opened for us to build these wonderful cutting boards and wine bottle boxes and utensil totes for "West Elm!"   The wonderful sales rep for the Epilog laser engraver we are trying to purchase allowed me to come to his office in San Jose and make the engraving samples for West Elm.  I was more excited about being able to "dress up" and wear office clothes from the usual "shop clothes" I have been sporting.
These are a couple of photos of the laser at work........

I am still trying to get the funding for the "Epilog" laser engraver that I need for these projects but I am still in the process.  I really need prayer for God's Will in this!  I really think He will provide and I am certainly taking a leap of faith on my part, and I can feel my heart beating quickly right now just writing about it.
I was debating on whether or not to write about how I really feel this week............... or to write about how I really really feel this week.  I am discouraged yet trying to overcome the obstacles that are in my way.  I have come to the realization that I need to pray a lot more,  and i have really realized the Grace from Jesus is so much more than I could ever imagine or dream of and I need it desperately every minute of every day.  I need more prayer for what lies ahead.

Mr. Know-it-All or as I sometimes call him Mr. Negative thinks i need to prepare for the "no" answer!  Ha!! I laugh in the face of the "no" answer, don't tell me I can't do it because i will try to prove you wrong.
Although, if it is God's will that my answer is "no" who am I to question that.  But if His answer is yes................a girl can dream, wish, hope, and keep praying..........

i might be a little too transparent but................

I have found that being transparent in business runs a fine line of telling too much because you are afraid of those that might label you "unprofessional".  I have found that I like to hear that others make mistakes too in their business.  I find them "relatable."
And is it not a breath of fresh air when someone understands what you are going through?  Sometimes I google a problem I'm having just to see if I can find someone else who I can relate to.
Well, on to the transparency thing, here goes.  My dad and I have been looking at a piece of equipment to purchase (well lets get real and transparent), lease or pay payments on........  We have been privileged to be asked to build some amazing cutting boards and accessories (6,000 of them........ holy cow) but they need to also be ENGRAVED!! You read that right, ENGRAVED!!!  And I am just the GIRL to do it!  But I need the machine.  And here is a picture of it!!
Its the Epilog Laser Legend and it needs to be in my shop ASAP!!
We have been praying for a miracle.  God has brought us the work and the need for the machine and now I believe he will bring us the money to purchase it.  I don't know how, but I am sure excited to find out!! Aren't you???
I will keep you posted,

results for the Martha Stewart American Made Contest

So the Martha Stewart American Made Contest is almost over, (the finalists were chosen per category), and I learned a few things.
1. you need to be good at bothering people you know every day to vote for you 6 times a day

2. you need to know a LOT of people, ok, ok, a million people :)

3. I can't believe i am going to admit this but..............Mr. Know-it-All was right, its a popularity contest

4. And guess what???? i am NOT popular.......

5. and i am ok with not being popular......sometimes......
6. i am NOT ok with admitting that Mr. Know-it-All was right.....because he will just remind me about it over and over again.....
7. This was a learning experience, learning that Martha doesn't really care about your product just that you can get A LOT of people to VOTE for it.

And with that i want to thank each one of you for voting for me, every day, 6 times a day, even more if you used more than one email............

Thank you so much for your support.

its been a long month

So its been a long month and it seems like its taken longer than a month to complete but we got the 400 cutting boards done and ready to ship!!
Long days, weekends, little children helping out, and a lot of time sanding we got it done with a group effort.
I am tired.
So this was the beginning, gluing.......well sort have to cut all the little pieces to glue first but I didn't get to photograph that part.  I am working here you know!!

Melissa then planed all the 250 ask where i was??? Well I was taking the picture and i was actually staining and finishing a job we had due that week so thanks to Melissa she got it done!!

Then we had to take all the planks and sand the rest of the glue off and here is Jakob taking the boards from the other side of the sander while I was feeding it on the other side.  This was a few days and I remember it was the week of 110 degrees.  I will take that weather back when i need to loose 10 lbs in about two days time.......

We cut out the hearts on the band saw......
This is me having to use my glasses to see cutting the hearts out......
Nathan handing me each heart to sand the edges on the belt sander....... all 80 of them........
Finish sanding all 400 cutting boards........
Oil and label.........
and finally..........
Boxes on Pallets ready to be wrapped........
and this my friends is the end of the story....well until next time........
If you ask, I will tell you "no I am not ready to make the next batch of chef boards." Also which I need to be starting on right now......
My proposition for the day........Does anyone want to help out and receive cutting boards for life????

the roller coaster ride i didn't know i got on.............

Sales, Smails..........Did I ever say I hate sales?  I don't know.  If I didn't, I am saying it now.  I hate sales.  I have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions the last 7 days and it is not fun.  The sales are up, the sales are down, the sales are up, the sales are down.  STOP with the MADDNESS!!!!  Maybe I shouldn't ask, but I want to know how the sales are going, and I am cursed with having curiousity.
I guess I am scared I won't sell any more cutting boards.  And what did God tell me just last night through my bible reading???
Matthew 6:31-33
So don't worry about these things, saying, "What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?" These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
He has it under control, and I am not supposed to worry about all this stuff.  Really this is so hard to do, and I really suck at it.
And that's why I remember now, its not about me.  Its about Jesus and His love for us.

You will have to remind me again tomorrow.

update on Homegoods.......

I started writing this post and I was going to label it "D-Day this Friday" because as of Friday the first stats on the sales of our cutting boards should be coming in from HomeGoods.  Then I checked my email and I got an update from the buyer!!!  Early!!  The sales on our boards are going very well and they want more!!!! I cannot be more excited and thankful!

Just so you and i are on the same page, these are the boards we shipped out to the HomeGoods stores,
the french bread board,

the circle or round shaped board,
the square shaped board,
and of course the heart shaped board......
What have I been learning for the last 7 years, to give God all my faith and trust in everything.  So I give God the reigns, then I take it back, then I give it back, then I take it back again, and give it back......exhausting right?  And then I question what His will is.........all the while he is preparing certain things to fall into place in His Story that I cannot see and all I have to do is Trust.  I am going to be a learner for LIFE in this area.
Thought you might like to see "Little Clone Mr. Know-it-All" working in the shop yesterday with my dad.  He is so cute.

"Handmade in Lodi, Ca" or "Handmade in USA???"

Discussion time.  I need some input.  We have to change the stamp on our boards to say "Weber Company" and underneath we are talking about putting "Made in USA" or "Made in Lodi, Ca"  I am thinking I like "Made in USA" the best.  What do you all think?

I would love to pretend that choosing the stamp for the boards is my only concern right now but its not.  I really need more time and more energy.  More time will happen only in my dreams......  I think I have come down with a cold, flu or something which made my day hard to get through, but I am thankful to be able to write this right now.....

Its been quite a ride the last few weeks with TJX but we finally made a deal!!!  I am happy to say we will be selling our boards to TJX Canada and Homegoods throughout the USA!!!!  I am thrilled, scared, overwhelmed, motivated, unmotivated, tired, hyped, and ready to go to bed now......

will update you soon,

just waiting.......

Sometimes I think waiting really stinks, but since its been since the 15th, (I know I didn't write waiting until the 21st on my calendar below, but it actually started the 15th), now I am starting to think Jesus wants me to learn some patience.  I am so excited that I met a TJX buyer from the New York Show and she has been talking to me about my boards.  She "loves" our cutting boards and said they will be ordering for "Home Goods", "TJ Maxx", "Marshalls", and "Homesence".  Last week I learned that the starting order was going to be 1100 boards!!
But then came the waiting, because of the price point......Oh the fun....I'm living the dream.
Life is a lot about negotiation.  You plead your case to the boss who is considering hiring you, you ask your friend if you can borrow their truck, you beg your friend to take your children for just an hour so you don't lose it completely!! Did I write that out loud?
I just keep praying that Jesus' will in my life is what I am doing every day.  I know every day I mess up and I am so thankful for His forgiveness.  I am so thankful for His Grace on my life and the lives of my family.  We are so blessed in so many ways going through the struggles of turning this business around and making it into something bigger than I ever imagined it could be.  I believe in my heart that this is what Jesus wants me to do.
What is God's Will for you?  I promise if you follow Jesus and ask Him for guidance He will answer.  And my most favorite is when I am so scared I ask for His Peace and He Always Provides...........Always

first event with "One Kings Lane"

My dad was talking to me in the office and pointing at the flags we have in the world map saying, "we need more flags on here April, we are limited to only the US and Canada and we need to sell more cutting boards! Lets get more flags on this map!"  So I made him stop and pose for a picture where he looks really mean and authoritative. And I knew I was going to blog about what he said......
So,one of the companies we hooked up with from the New York Show was "One Kings Lane." I was privileged to meet a couple of their buyers and they came by my booth to talk to me about what we could sell on their website. They have specific sales with different themes. Starting Tuesday March 5th they are having their Kitchen Essentials Event in which our circle, square, and french bread board will be featured.
Go to their site to buy exclusive items for exclusive timing and deals here:
I was told about this "Kitchen Essentials" event almost two weeks ago and I say less than two weeks because this is what I and my new helper Melissa have been doing.....

We could barely push the cart because it weighed 125lbs worth of cutting boards we were sanding.  My dad was laughing so hard at us he had to take a picture...
Starting tomorrow at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern our boards will be for sale for 58 hours here;
I AM PLANNING ON PUTTING A FLAG ON EVERY CITY I DELIVER A BOARD TO ON THE MAP and I am hoping we get orders in several countries.  That map is going to be filled with flags when I am done with it!
I am hoping to sell out their expectations!!! And I will let you know the results, possibly the mayhem that is to come this week with filling orders and shipping.

so.....i did it again

I know, you are dying to know what I did again right?   Mr. Know-it-All is actually secretly hoping I am about to confess I wasn't looking at my surroundings and I tripped on something again, and then he can shake his head....nope.... not even close Mr. Know-it-All.

Well, I applied for the show "Shark Tank" last year and didn't mention it because I apply for a lot of things.  Then the "Shark Tank" producer called me up and wanted more information, and then I really wasn't supposed to say anything because I might be on the show.  But it was not to be, I wasn't picked for this last season.  And don't you know every time I watch an episode and see a company on there and they have a silly invention I think, "why did the producers pick that? Why???"

So.....I did it again, and I am going to talk about it.  I applied.  This time I am not as nervous about it.  I have my "Brave" bracelet that I got from a great friend, I am not going to think about it, I am not going to obsess about it, and I am just going to wait.  And if divine intervention is to be, and I am supposed to be on that show, then it will be.

I decided to write about our Wine Bottle Cutting Board being the best seller!  I even did a name drop of "you know who" (with the photo) because I didn't do it last time, so what the heck?  And I gave them a new picture of our board that you see on the right.
All in all its been a great day trying to sell cutting boards and get on shows like "Shark Tank."

the follow up game

How much time do you wait before you follow up with a phone call or an email you sent?  Personally I have been waiting a week or so before I try to re-establish a connection, but is that too much time?  Too little time?  Does the person not want to talk to me if its been over a week and I have not heard back?  I don't like to be pushy, its just not me.  If you want a cutting board or a cabinet, great! If you don't that's fine too, see ya later!
I know I am being a little weird but I just can't wait to find out from the "Home Goods" buyer!  I mean its 2500 stores for goodness sake!!!!  If I get to make even one board for each store, can do the math.  This is nuts!
Its like when you go out on a first date and you can't wait to find out if they liked you and if they want to see you again.  But this is the dating of the mega store.  The phone call follow up with the answer that will make you cry for happiness or break your heart.  Which one will it be?
Only time will tell.....and the waiting really sucks.....

new york gift show recap

Firstly I have to say my booth was the most pathetic looking.  I have to use the word pathetic because compared to the others around me, well here it is…..

with the exception of my beautiful mom of course!

Secondly these are the booths around me…….

and across from me........

The most interesting questions/conversations;

“What kind of wood is this?”

My answer; “North American Maple & Cherry Lumber”

“Well bamboo is the best.  I have all bamboo cutting boards in Both my homes” said the lady who never built a custom cutting board in her life.

Another funny one;

“Is this your first show?”

Me; “Doesn’t my booth look like its my first show?”

We had a good laugh…. At my expense.

And yet another funny one;

“Don’t you sell barbeques?”

Me; “NO!”

And of course the question you all have been waiting for that I get asked at least once a week,
“You don’t build these do you?”

Me;  “Yes I do.”

“No you don’t”

Me;  Yes I do” (Laughing, and really getting irritated)......I am NOT LYING!!!!

Overall I had a wonderful time and was enamored with all the big buildings and lights I got to walk by every night on my way to the hotel because I was too tired to go out.  I need to stay a little longer next time or try vivran with a triple grande mocha to keep myself going for the extra fun!
I will let you know on all the prospects as they come available.  Until then....

new year, new name

Well I am very excited to announce that Weber's Cabinets has been in business for 40 years now and because we don't build just "cabinets" anymore we have decided to change our name to help encompass all of our attributes.

We are now, "WEBER COMPANY."  It has been a long time coming deciding when and how to change the name.  I wanted to make sure that my dad and grandpa's legacy from starting this company still encompassed the Weber name.
My dad and I are partners now, and I am so excited about that! The intention for this year is "The Year of the Cutting Board."  We are making all efforts to making this company thrive on building our custom cutting boards for the masses!
And with change there is also a little apprehension from me, a person who actually loves change because it feels like a new beginning.  I want people to love us still for our integrity, hard work, and dedication to building the highest quality custom wood products you would ever come across.
And with that I will be on a plane Friday morning heading off to New York City to sell my boards to as many retailers as I can.....I am still nervous but very excited.  Its making me think of my favorite movie, "Big Business" all over again and hoping I can pull it off.
